I think the subwoofer idea is a sound one There was a discussion ongoing on another forum where one individual claimed that midrange was the only important element in loudspeakers. My reply to him was if the sound is not complete (no lows or highs) I'll wager you wont listen to them long.

I like my Maggies now that I repaired them but I still listen to my old Altecs more because they offer a more complete sound to me.

I have little experience with speakers other than the Altecs I've had forever. What are the advantages of tower speakers? I'm guessing one thing is the taller speaker does away with a stand?
