Without knowing the T/S parameters, I can only make a generalized suggestion here.

I would stick with the external woofer arrangement. It is possible that you could actually decrease the deep bass extension by having a second woofer sharing that 70 liter box. Also, being able to position the external woofers independently of the main speakers can be beneficial as far as room interaction in the bass region goes.
