The tubes that came with the kit were RFT, at least, that's how they're labeled. I noticed the Stoetkit.nl website offers Sovtek 6BM8's, but I didn't notice that until after I ordered mine. I did order a matched set, and the ones that came with the kit appear to have been matched too. So as long as I swap them in groups, the circuit will be symmetrical.
I'd like to get some Светлана (Svetlana) ECL82/6BM8 tubes, but those are out of production. Best would be to find a matched set of NOS tubes. One of these days I'd like to find a set but they aren't as readily available as current production 6BM8's. The Sovtek tubes may be alright, but the Светлана tubes are the real thing, if you asked me.
Anyway, the amp sounds pretty good with either set of tubes. I think I like the sound of the RFT's better, but with the bias I had already formed from seeing the box, that's no surprise. The Sovteks might be as good or better and it might be just me. But I would like to try some other brands. Let me know if you know where to get some.
