I'll probably bring three π speakers with the new Definimax midwoofer option, and of course the H290C waveguide.

A list of seminars and their times will be listed on the "Schedule" page. But right now, the schedule is still being decided.
Speakers we already know about are Bruce Heran of OddWatt, who will give a talk on tube amps, and I'll give my usual "Crossover Electronics 101" seminar. There are others that have expressed interest, but until they commit, I'll not say at this point.

Bruce Heran of OddWatt Audio will hold a seminar, and I think Scott Sheaffer of Found Music will too. More news to follow.

Oddwatt has some new things and some repeats. One is an updated version of our guitar head amp. So bring you guitars and hopefully someone will bring a few different speakers to try it on. A jam session in the meeting room might be cool. If all goes well it will enter our product line up later this year. ]]>gofar992014-03-09T03:17:34-00:00Re: LSAF 2014

Sadly, I can't be there this year. First year since it started that has been the case. But I have too many competing priorities, and too much going on right around May.
Thank goodness, Bruce Heran has stepped up to the plate and will be sort of a "point man" for the show. He and Rodney Brinker of OddWatt are show contacts for anyone needing assistance. Also, Scott Sheaffer of Found Music will be there and will be taking on a leadership role as well.

Yes, it's a drag. I've just got too much piled on my plate right now, so LSAF is out for me. But I'll be back next year.
I'm not sure if there will be anyone there with a set of my speakers, but I'll not be sending anyone in my stead. It's not like I'm going anywhere permanently, I just am running way too thin to attend the show this year.

Since I am a point person for the event - not sure what all that means, but it ought to be fun. Feel free to contact me for info, questions and such. PM is fine. General questions in this thread are fine as well as I check it daily. If you need to call me...give me a heads up PM and I'll call you if you provide a number. If you call out of the blue you will either get my voice mail or answering machine. After years of robo calls and similar requests to buy or support every thing known to man we just stopped answering any that we either don't know or are pre-arranged.
I apologize for not posting info earlier but mother nature decided I should get pneumonia and that kind of wiped me out for a while.

I have been coming to LSAF since Tulsa. Haven't sold a single speaker to anyone attending LSAF. But what should I expect. It's a DIY event. So this year, I am changing my approach. Rather than bring products for sale, I'm going to bring a demo of an all digital bi-amped two-way based on a full-ranger on top crossed at ~200Hz to a pair of stereo subs that are flat to 20Hz. Should be some good fun!
The subs are still in plywood -- Dayton RSS315HF-4's in 2ft^3 sealed boxes. The amps are the Topping TP-60 (T2020) on top and the Crown XLS1500 on the subs.

I have an ongoing personal project/experiment that might be fun to have at LSAF. It would certainly provide me more data points given all of the available victims...errr...subjects that will be there. This is not really a classic DIY project, nor is it intended to lead to a for-profit product. It is just plain, old geekiness (which doesn't mean it can't be fun or informative).
I have experimenting with crossover functions using FIR filters. I'm trying to determine how a system incorporating them is perceived by critical listeners versus more common IIR filter implementations (other factors being equal).
I'm an physicist/acoustician whose work for a large corporation offers me fortunate access to a 50Hz anechoic chamber on those occasions when I am visiting the corporate headquarters. I designed a loudspeaker for the project that met the requirements of traveling with me in a suitcase (barely) on trips to corporate. It has drivers chosen to have bandwidth capability that can accommodate identical crossover points (in this case, 250 Hz, 3500 Hz) for both filter types.
I have set up the DSP processing so that I can change from FIR to IIR filtering on the fly in order to allow a listener(s) compare the two approaches. I have professional acquaintances give it a listen when the opportunity arises, but it would be great to have LSAF attendees do the same and see what the preference numbers are for a larger sample.
The speakers are not intended to be the last word in high end fidelity, but I don't think anyone will run out screaming with their hands over their ears. Loudspeaker system design is not exactly new for me.
I would record the preference by listener, but not report how the final numbers fall out until after the event. What do you think? Is it interesting enough to be worth doing?

That's all you gotta do to attend. Just book your room. Make announcements here, just like you just did.
In fact, if you're motivated, you can sign up to give a talk. Let us know if you would be interested in that.

The room is booked! (I had a pile Hotels.com free nights to burn...finally found a way to use a few of 'em )
I have a talk on basic room acoustics that I developed for the Academy for the Advancement of High End Audio (anyone remember that?) and presented at the annual Stereophile Show a few times. I checked my file archives and I still have the PowerPoint presentation that I developed for it in my archives, so I could burn an hour or so of room time with that.
Just let me know if it would appropriate/useful.

I think people would definitely be interested. If you want to schedule a talk, write to info@lonestaraudiofest.com and pick a time. The seminar room is open all day Saturday, and looks like 2:00 to 3:00 is open, as is the morning. You could maybe do a 11:00am talk, 2:00pm or 4:00pm.
I do have a projector that I can bring along, if necessary, but I do not have a portable screen on hand.
Also, does anyone happen to have a dimensional floor plan drawing of the rooms at the hotel. I would like to get an idea of how I can best configure the listener/loudspeaker layout ahead of time. Since I am reasonably local, I can probably impose upon the hotel to let me measure an unoccupied room. However, if this info already exists, I am happy to take the easy way out. ]]>KJ Knowles2014-04-11T14:58:07-00:00Re: LSAF 2014

Room sizes.... don't know exactly. But based on my memory from past years the front room in the suites is about 12 feet wide and 15 deep. You can use the bedroom (some do but the hotel is not thrilled with it) and stash everything against the walls. That room is almost twice the size of the front one. If you actually check with the hotel on room sizes please let me know and I'll post it for others information. There are two different size rooms and the dimensions on each would be handy. One is the usual suite and the other is one that has an up front conference section. It is slightly larger and there are very few of them. BTW the meeting room is supposed to hold over 60 people.

I stay at quite a few Embassy Suites during my (all-too-often) travels and my memory of the room size matches with yours. They all seem to be built with the same floorplans. I can see why. It works very well for travelers and I am never unhappy to stay at one.
I will check with the hotel on the off chance that they have room layout drawings. If not, I will probably get permission to pay a visit ahead of the show and take some measurements. If I do that, I will certainly pass along the info here.
I do many presentations in the course of my day gig, so if they have a television in the room, I can almost certainly connect to it with my laptop. It is usually HDMI connection these days, but some are still limited to DVI or VGA connections. Regardless, I'm sure I can get it to work.
If you find they have zero video capability, let me know and I will bring my projector and scrounge up a screen from somewhere. It can live in the room for other presenters. Hotel AV prices are always stupid expensive.
Thanks for your efforts!

I have attended all but one LSAF since Tulsa. I need to note that while I am a "vendor", I have never make a dime off of LSAF. Never sold a pair of speakers, not even a set of plans to a visitor to LSAF. This is the reality of why the big guys will never attend LSAF, at least not more than once. There simply isn't any money to be made.
LSAF needs to go back to its roots. This is a DIY meet. Guys attend to see what others are doing. Don't bother trying to get some big names to attend. Get DIY'ers to just simply bring some stuff. The rooms are acoustically horrible. No bit deal. Let's see what you are doing. Spend all of the advertising effort on getting DIY'ers to bring their stuff.
It's been years since I went to the Atlanta meet. Strictly DIY. Contests. Prizes. Different type of venue, but I can see making it work in Dallas. The Parts Express meet in Dayton shows what can be done DIY only, but then PE is footing the bill. Could we get sponsors for some real prizes?
Move LSAF out of Dallas at your peril. You won't get anyone to come other than Texans. That may be OK with some, but it takes me five hours to get to Dallas. It's another three hours to Austin. I personally won't be dong that.

Lots of talk, over at diyaudio, and it amounts to a lot of wasted BW and pipe dreams. Maybe some of them should ask for your guidance. They might need it.

FWIW, Bob, your room is one of the ones I truly miss hearing in my several year absence. Especially hooked up to that amp that Jef built. One of the very few times I ever get to listen to single driver setups.]]>Shane2014-05-08T19:58:13-00:00Re: LSAF 2014

For me, it never was about direct sales. I know there are a few people that sell at shows, but that's really sort of unusual. I've been to a lot of shows besides LSAF, and they're really not the best place to make a sale. Exhibitors don't usually bring any inventory and most companies don't even bring a card reader to take payment. It's really more a place to show, a demo area where people can come and see a lot of gear in one venue.
Most small manufacturers demo from their homes. Some have a small shop that doubles as a display room. So for most small companies, prospective customers must audition in the manufacturer's home or shop.
Lone Star Audiofest (or any other regional audio show) gives another place for demos to be held. Customers can see a lot of niche-market products in one venue. They probably won't buy at the show, but they'll at least be able to audition. Then they can narrow down their choices and make arrangements to phone in an order, buy online or do a more lengthy second audition at a later date.
