Put away the tools for a while to listen. I have enough albums that I can play two a day for years and never hear the same song twice so it's time to remmember why we do this hobby.
Tried the new Charlie Haden album,"Land of The Sun. An example of cultural diffusion in very nice jazz renditions of Mexico's folk tunes. Extremely good recording and players. The sound is one of the most lifelike and sensual I've heard lately, very mellow and sweet jazz.
Started playing some old rock from the vaults. Two that stand out;
John Mayall, "U.S.A Union". And one of the all time best,
"Turning Point". Try California, it is seven minutes long and live with realistic presentation. If you are not familiar, Mayall shucked the drums for these two recordings and sings some nice smooth bluesey riffs. Harvey Mandel on Guitar and Stefon Harris on Violin.
Next up, Chicago and "Color My World"/'Twenty Five or 6/24".
Or maybe The James Gang, I don't know yet. Or Spooky Tooth.
