The internet is a wonderful thing. I found pictures of garman (A) 's 2pi tower under construction http://f1.pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/lowgc/album?.dir=/Pi+Towers&.src=ph&store=&prodid=&.done=http%3a//f1.pg.photos.yahoo.com/lowgc
and learned that butt joints were just fine from Louis Lung and that medium density fibreboard is the medium of choice. http://www.lungster.com/l/speakers/mdffaq/mdf.html

The kit is on the way and I already have the big pieces cut out. This is a lot of fun. I found the mdf at Home Depot in 3/4", so I added 1/8" all around to keep the interior dimensions the same. I'll use the port size for the 3/4" material specified in the plans. Now all I have to do is decide on an amplifier and preamp....
