Is time aligning a compression driver with horn flare and a woofer important?

For example, if the diaphram of a compression drive was aligned with a voicecoil of the woofer, the horn flare in my case, JBL 2385a, would be projecting out about 6" from the woofer.

What am I missing?

Jim
