If you just want composite video in/out, then you can use one of the DVRs made for recording cameras and the like. You'll see them used in security systems. But if you want to also use them as a tuner/switcher for your satellite or cable TV, you probably will run into dead ends. These guys have tying arrangements with the DVR/tuner manufacturers and they won't let you introduce a "foreign" device on the line. You can hook it up, but they won't enable it, even if it's the exact same model as the devices they use.
