I did just that.

I got some tuner cleaner from Radio Shack. they suggested i hit it with wd40, work it a bit, then clean it.

sucker rolls sweet now. still dont work though.

Pulled the chassis to look for bulged caps. they all looked good.

Can I check the caps while they're still connected? These things look like giant resisters! I think some are.
