My opinion is that people live in those little towns (partly "isolated" on the islands and some parts of the coast) for thousands years continually. They are on the Helenistic and Roman roots (if not even older); new population ("Barbarians" from 6th-7th century) mixed with old - and from centuries they find a way to live in harmony with the nature and each other, and good things in life...
It isn`t everything perfect, but believe me - you don`t need the guns there...just the sun lotion...
