Re: Placing speakers against the wall
Just to be clear for those that don't study the material in the links: Placing a speaker against the wall that is not designed for it has disadvantages. But a speaker can be designed to be placed against a wall, turning potential problems into streng...

Re: Placing speakers against the wall
The problem is early reflections, and the frequency response anomalies that result. If the sound source is acoustically close to the boundary, it's a good thing. But if not - and that's usually impossible - then the boundaries give unwanted reflectio...

Re: Helper Woofer Location
If you can put the speakers in the corners, you really want to run seven π cornerhorns instead. They are designed for corner placement, keeping the sound source acoustically close to the apex of the corner. That removes the need for flanking subs becau...

Re: speaker location and type
Speakers in corners don't need flanking subs, but they do still benefit from more distant distributed subs. I don't think I'd put a sub immediately below the corner speakers, because then you would have two bass sound sources in the corners, which is a ...

Re: Baffle wall
A couple of posts about the subject of soffit mounting: 4Pi soffit mounting 3Pi wall baffleThere are a few linked pages in each of those threads. Be sure and read the content contained in each of the links because they describe the underlying issue - wh...

Re: 4 Pi - Horn to middle of baffle?
That amp looks like it would work well. All my speakers are designed for halfspace, except those designed for corner loading. However, the truth is they're so large that the transition happens below the Schroeder frequency, making this fact rather ac...

Re: 4pi plans and questions
You've got mail! Four π speakers are perfectly suited for soffit mounting, in wall, baffle flush. See the following thread: four π loudspeakers at NJCU sound labAs for the surround speakers, I really like using one π or two π speakers as surrounds. ...

Re: 3pi wall baffle
Again, flush soffit mounting will prevent a directivity change at low frequency. But in rooms this size, the directivity shift occurs in the modal range, so it doesn't buy you much. Best to run multiple subs, especially since your room is square.

Re: In-wall baffle
Flush soffit mouting is a good thing because it eliminates the (baffle step) directivity transion from freespace to halfspace radiation. Anytime there is a directivity change, there is a corresponding change in on-axis response. This assumes power resp...

Re: Soffit (Flush Mount) Reference Speakers
I would suggest simply building the speakers as designed and mounting them in the wall. If you can close the gap so the wall is the baffle, that's great but as long as the gap is small it is acoustically invisible. Radiating into half-space does incr...
