Re: Custom home theater room
Most times, you can work with what you've got and expect at least reasonably good performance. There are some very difficult rooms though. Examples are basements (or any room with hard walls), very long narrow rooms, very small rooms and rooms with hig...

Re: 3 Pi plans
Hi Max Checked your build thread, very nice!!! I won't be running any subs so its great to hear that they go low. Don't know what it'll be in my space since it's about 60m2 and has a 3.5m ceiling height... Too bad that the wife don't like your bea...

Re: Small rooms are harder to get good sound?
I'm very surprised to hear that, but quite pleased to have learned something new, too. I am one of those people who always assumed that the smaller the room, the easier it was to get the right quality sound.

Re: Small rooms are harder to get good sound?
Very good information. Never thought about it like that. Smaller would have more problems with the closer reflections. I'm happy someone brought this up. Now I know.

Re: Small rooms are harder to get good sound?
That's very counter-intuitive. I'm sure I'm not the only one who assumed that the smaller the room, the easier it is to get good sound! Guess you never stop learning.

Re: Finding best sound system for high ceilings
High ceilings are good. Large rooms are good. Anything that reduces boundary reflections or moves them further away is a good thing. What makes problems for acoustics are small rooms, especially with hard walls. Low ceilings, especially gabled ones...

Re: Small rooms are harder to get good sound?
Yes, small rooms have more problematic room modes than large rooms. The larger the room, the further away the reflections are. This is good both for delay and intensity. Rooms that are very large act more like an anechoic (reflection free) environ...

Small rooms are harder to get good sound?
I was reading somewhere that small rooms are much harder to get the speakers set in the correct place for optimum sound. Is that really true?

Re: Small-room acoustics
Quite some explanation Wayne; how I wish I knew half of what you just explained. My producer friend prefers small rooms but now see how much he has to put in.

Re: Small-room acoustics
Actually, small rooms are harder to work with than larger rooms. The reflections and room modes are more intense in a small room. Speakers that can provide uniform directivity help reduce problems in the reverberent field, above around 200Hz, and as yo...
