Re: Horn mouth vs. front baffle or "speaker cone"
Here's a post that contains a video that shows measurement of vertical nulls: Crossover optimization for DI-matched two-way speakersThe thread above shows my design process for crossover optimization of matched-directivity two-way speakers like the thre...

Re: Subwoofer Setup
That's great to hear, Barry. Thanks for the feedback! As you and I have discussed, I'm a big proponent of multisubs but I consider the flanking sub aspect to be an additional requirement. I think that distributed multisubs by themselves only solve p...

Re: 7pi plan and guidance request
If you have the right corners, I would suggest using the 2226 drivers in seven π constant directivity cornerhorns and make subwoofers from the 2242 drivers. Put the subs in opposite corners or somewhere distant from the cornerhorns, in a multisub config...

Re: The subwoofer volume and crossover
I was generalizing the concepts and using "round numbers" in my earlier post above. Flanking subs are setup to blend generally in the 100-200Hz region, but in practice the blending region is shifted a little lower than that. Distributed mul...

Re: Small-room acoustics
Actually, small rooms are harder to work with than larger rooms. The reflections and room modes are more intense in a small room. Speakers that can provide uniform directivity help reduce problems in the reverberent field, above around 200Hz, and as yo...

Re: Small speaker flanking sub limitations.
Over-excursion doesn't generally affect response. It creates intermodulation distortion. You can measure it, but more importantly, you can hear it. So there's your litmus test: Can you hear it? If audible, it will sound sort of like the effect f...

Re: Small speaker flanking sub limitations.
Sure, that would probably work just fine. It would smooth the anomalies around 100-120Hz, which is where we usually find the self-interference notch from the wall behind the mains.

Re: Small speaker flanking sub limitations.
When mains are very small like that, you really need to use subs just to prevent over-excursion of the mains. If you want to use a flanking sub approach in that case, you really need two subs per side. The whole idea is to increase the number of soun...

Re: 4 pi speaker plans please
Answers below your questions: I've been lusting after these for a while, but I have some questions. How far apart and how high off of the floor should these be ideally? I would like to make a custom console/tv stand combo that contains them. Set...

Re: 4 Pi and 3 pi subwoofer
Answers by numbers: 1. Will the design be compromised if the port is moved to the rear and the horn is centered above the woofer? Is having the horn off-center actually facilitating this design? It's just not so aesthetically pleasing to me. If you...
