Re: Helper Woofer Location
The best approach for the helper woofer is to locate it physically between the main midwoofer and the nearest room boundaries. So you might want to put the helper woofer on the back, near the bottom. I sometimes call this a "flanking sub" app...

Re: New HT - Need Advice on Speakers - 4pis or 7pis for main, 2pis, and what to use for bass
Answers by numbers: 1. The seven π cornerhorn is a constant directivity cornerhorn. The four π speaker is a matched-directivity two-way loudspeaker. The difference is that a constant directivity cornerhorn provides constant directivity from the Sch...

Re: 4pi Commercial Dinner Theater Build
Answers by numbers: 1. If I understood your picture properly, the west wall is on the left, where the mains are. So that would be where you would put flanking subs. Distant subs would be put somewhere else, more distant from the mains. The low-pas...

Re: Information about Pi Speakers
What you want for flanking subs are sound sources that are smooth through 200Hz or so. Pretty much any direct radiating sub will do that just fine, regardless of size. Most subs will, to be honest. The only thing I'd stay away from are tapped horns, w...

Re: 12π basshorn subwoofer - the best yet!
I designed the 12π hornsub after some discussions on a hifi forum about the LABhorn. The LABhorn was initially designed as a DIY horn for prosound use with an intended passband of 30Hz to 100Hz. But as with many other things, someone proposed using it fo...

Re: Sealed 4Pi ???
I wouldn't do a sealed version of the four π loudspeaker, except for one application. The center channel of a home theater system having four π speakers can be made sealed, with the left and right being standard models, mirror imaged as usual. In this ...

Re: So how does this all work then..?
The biggest difference in the Eminence and AE drivers is in the midrange, actually. It's smoother and distortion is lower because of flux stabilization rings. The bass is good either way, although all my speakers are high-efficiency designs which means...

Re: Sub woofer Assist
Check out the thread called "The Subwoofer Thing" along with all the links contained therein. It's about a configuration that uses multiple bass sound sources at different places in the room to average out room modes. Some call this a multisu...

Re: Sub crossovers
Now there's a pair for you! Seriously, that will work just fine. I used the Rekkhorn F1 sub crossover, and it worked pretty well. It allows variable adjustment of the (24dB/octave) low-pass frequency and amplitude. But honestly, I kind of like ...
