Re: 2Pi's completed - now I want a center channel
Those are great looking speakers, congratulations!
You can use a one Pi as a center where you have one π, two π or two π towers as left/right mains. There is enough spectral match between the three. However, do not lay it on its side or use any sort...

Re: Power/pre amp question for Pi Speakers
It sounds like you have thought it through and have a reasonable plan. If all the amp channels are able to be run independently - without some kind of processor - then you should be able to use them. Basically everything but the subs are run full range...

Power/pre amp question for Pi Speakers
I am building the 4pi with dual flanking subs and 2pi for surround. Would this set up work well?
Marantz AV7005 Pre-Amp Processor 7.2
with

Re: Pi 7 Information
Hi Wayne, thank you for the reading material. It is excellent as is all the information you provide. I don't pretend to understand it all but hope to improve.
Provided the windows mentioned are not a real problem and that the crossing of the forward s...

Re: Subwoofer Crossover
The MiniDSP would work nicely, because you can use it to set whatever low-pass frequency and slope you want. I'd probably lean towards that since it gives you such flexibility. Sub crossovers are easier to dial-in than the crossovers inside the mains. ...

Subwoofer Crossover
I am getting ready to upgrade my electronics (the 4 Pi speakers and modified Pi 3 flanking subs I built and documented here were the first step). To that end, I am suplementing my Onkyo TX-SR805 THX Ultra2 7.1 A/V Receiver by adding an Odyssey Audio Khart...

Re: Helper Woofer Location
I like the flanking sub approach because it is so flexible. If you wanted to use your speakers outdoors or in a very large space, where you want sound sources to be within 1/4λ through their passbands, you can always sit the mains on top of the subs for...

Re: Helper Woofer Location
Modeling won't show what we're trying to accomplish unless you do a room simulation. Most software I know of simulates a speaker in anechoic space or some simple radiating angle (e.g. halfspace). Room simulation software tends to see the source as a si...

Re: LAB12
I've send the plans for the three π subwoofer.
As for crossovers, there are a lot of options. The Behringer would work, as would the Rekkhorn sub crossover or the Pyle crossover. I wouldn't use the Pyle crossover unless it were modded though, so if ...

Re: Multi sub hook-up question
No, you'll want to low-pass the subs, meaning you'll need some kind of crossover. For flanking subs (nearest the mains), you can use a simple coil in series, but this will only work if the subs are as close to the same sensitivity as the mains (which is...
