Re: And an even more indepth article
As a untutored amatuer may I offer this Quote for comment," when conventional transistor amplifiers enter undefined operating regions the amp clips and feedback loses it's grip on the amp. Conventional designs use feedback to compensate for gain transitio...

Re: seriers crossovers
Rod Elliot did an excellent article comparing series with parallel networks. I agree with his conclusion, that the most important thing is that the driver be included in any filter analysis. When so doing, you see the circuit less as a textbook filter a...

Re: Woofer speed
The main point is that "speed" is a rather inaccurate term to use, since all speakers will move their diaphrams the same speed at a given frequency and a given excursion. But just like mass is only one property, so too is inductance. Each of these is a ...

Re: One of my favorite little two-way speakers
I've used this particular model of tweeter since 1977 - literally tens of thousands of them - and I've incorporated them with every conceivable electrical network from none to third order to contoured response-shaping filters. I've also tried many of the ...

Great Plains Audio Club Meeting - November 2003
We had another excellent time at the Great Plains Audio Club Meeting Saturday, hosted by Mark Margiotta and his lovely wife Dawne. They spoiled us with barbequed chicken and hamburger, and enough finger foods to feed a small nation. In fact, I found myse...

Re: Philco model 41-280
In my Rider CD's, there are models 41-81 to 41-105 and models 41-722 to 41-759. There are many 42-xxx models, from 42-121 up to 42-1016. Several of them have the (121) suffix like you've listed for your 41-290. So I don't have any solid information ...

American Graffiti
The Alpha series are Eminence's lowest price offering. But they have some unusual benefits besides their low cost. You mentioned one of them here - Open baffles are a good option for Alpha 15's. When put in a cabinet, the volume must be huge. Another b...

Electrical, mechanical and pneumatic properties
In a sealed box, Q and resonance are set by only one thing outside the woofer itself, and that is cabinet size. But in a bass-reflex system, you have both the Helmholtz frequency and the cabinet size as variables. This means you have the option of making...

Re: current sink/source
The amplifier tends to act as a short circuit to back-EMF from the woofer. Output impedance is effectively a series resistance. So you can simulate the effects of increased amplifier output resistance by adding series resistance in the woofer circuit.
