Re: subwoofer use for old cabinets
Don't high-pass the mains, let them run wide open. Low-pass the subs depending on their distance from the mains. If you only have a couple subs, make them flanking subs and low-pass them around 90Hz. Put the mains on stands, and put the subs on the floor...

Re: New HT - Need Advice on Speakers - 4pis or 7pis for main, 2pis, and what to use for bass
It's a Thiele/Small modeling program. Lots of freeware/shareware programs available that can be used to calculate subwoofer box/port combinations for any given driver.
No, you have to purchase the amp seperately. It can either be a plate amp or ...

More on Formica Cabinets
The Formica is cut, the cabinets are re-furbed with low spots filled and leveled and screw holes doweled. Time to move outside and begin the inhalation of toxic fumes!
Just like with the NBL wood veneer, 2 coats of contact adhesive go on both surfaces, ...

I just came into a nice sized Crown PA amp that I'm considering powering my subs with . Currently they are run off of a plate amp. I can't help but think the Crown has more to offer in the way of quality power. Any ideas on a what crossover to pair up with...

Re: Subwoofers
Two subs are definitely better than one.
I wouldn't suggest driving them with tubes. You could, but I think it's a waste. Wrong tool for the job, in my opinion. Use tubes for mains, solid state for subs. Use plate amps for the subs or press an old...

Re: Sub Crossover
So do you run a y connector from the crossover to the amp. I guess I'm having a hard time grasping the connection from the crossover to the amps.
Since there is a single RCA output for the left and right from the crossover, are you only using the left...

Re: Blown Speakers - Failure Modes
I agree with you, generally, as long as people use reasonable care in their equipment purchases, they should expect their loudspeakers to last a lifetime. This is true in the commercial high-fidelity and home theater markets, at least, because the power...

Talk me out of this crazy idea
My kids need a pair of home theatre mains and I have on the shelf 2 Dayton DCS-380 15" subs, 2 B&C 8PE21 8" mids and 2 Vifa XT25G tweets, all leftovers from previous projects.
