Re: Subwoofer Setup
That's great to hear, Barry. Thanks for the feedback! As you and I have discussed, I'm a big proponent of multisubs but I consider the flanking sub aspect to be an additional requirement. I think that distributed multisubs by themselves only solve p...

Re: 3Pi Sub plans, and some other questions.
There are plenty of good plate amp options, especially for distributed multisubs. It's not like mains, where I'm a little more picky. Treat 'em like a commodity and choose whichever suits you best. Just stay away from the no-name brands and you'll be ...

Re: DSP for subwoofer(s)
You're right - the main thing is number and placement of subs. I understand that you want to use a DSP crossover because it gives you the ability to choose any crossover point and slope you want, so will be easy to set the requisite ~90Hz second-order...

Re: 3Pi Sub plans, and some other questions.
You've got mail! Vented and sealed subs are generally pretty tolerant of modifications. They are acoustically small, so standing waves don't setup inside. So basically, as long as the internal volume and port remain the same, you can expect performa...

7pi speaker parts and multiple subs
Hi Wayne, A couple of years ago I stumbled on your designs and you kindly sent me the plans for the 7pi corner horn when I suggested my lounge might be ok as a suitable location. I am in the UK so it has been necessary (cost wise) to collect parts loca...

Re: LSAF 2018
My room sounded great, especially for a hotel room. To be honest, I've done this show for nearly 20 years now, so I have it down. I know exactly where to put my speakers and how to setup the equipment. I always bring either seven π constant dire...

Re: Questions about Pi Speakers
I agree with you. One of the first things I observed was that high-efficiency loudspeakers were preferable to speakers with lower efficiency. I'd say sensitivity it's second only to tonal balance in importance. Next would be directivity followed by ...

Re: Dead Spots
You should consider yourself lucky. I used to run into this problem a lot before I invested in multisubs. I didn't know about the wire reversal trick though. That's good to know, even if it's not the best fix.

Re: Dead Spots
Yes, that is typical and it is the result of room modes. Read about multisubs and flanking subs. That's the way to get smooth bass which is uniform in all locations in the room. In the meantime, you may be able to mitigate the straight-on dead-spo...

Re: Are subwoofers worth it?
If you can tell the subs are on, you don't have 'em setup right. I used to prefer systems without subs until Todd Welti introduced the multisub concept in the early 2000s. I expanded upon it to include the concept of flanking subs. Both approaches s...
