Re: Is it safe to position a Sub facing a room's side walls?
It doesn't matter what direction you face subs if they are crossed over below 80Hz or so. But if they are run higher than that - and you need the upper-end response - then orientation can matter. The only times I would want subs run high are when they ...

Re: PI 4 Upgrades
If you have the H290C waveguide, it sounds like you're upgraded as far as you can go, at least as far as "factory upgrades" are concerned. You could replace the B&C driver with a TAD TD-2002, but I've never offered it because of the price....

Re: Flanking subs with multi-sub optimizer, and other questions
Sounds good. I've always used monopole direct-radiating subs for flanking subs and multisubs. Hornsubs are just too large and dipoles aren't in my wheelhouse. But I would think dipoles might just work very well for various flavors of multisub setups, ...

Re: Horn loaded Corona Build
There are lots of other great build threads too. Some people have built some really great looking home theaters. Some have made super nice dinner theater installations. And there are plenty of great finishes from various builders too. Almost too many...

Re: 4Pi plan request and question.
You've got mail! I recommend you use flanking subs with these speakers. This isn't done just to add extension, but also to provide modal smoothing and reduce self-interference anomalies from nearest boundaries. Some people also like to run one or tw...

Re: Corner horns & flanking subs?
Constant directivity cornerhorns don't benefit from flanking subs. The anomalies created by reflections from nearest boundaries when using traditional loudspeakers don't occur in cornerhorn installations. The sound source is acoustically close to the n...

Re: Three Pi and Three Pi Sub Plans
That's right, exactly. Set the SPL so that 100Hz is the same level as 200Hz and 300Hz. What you'll also get is a reduction in the amplitude of the dip that results from self-interference from the wall behind the speakers and also reduction o...

Re: Three Pi and Three Pi Sub Plans
"If you can hear noticeably louder bass or midbass with the subs on, then they're set too loud. Thus is true no matter if they're set as multisubs, flanking subs or traditional subs" I guess most car 'audio' guys that didn't get the memo. Som...

Re: Three Pi and Three Pi Sub Plans
I've always loved ribbon tweeters too. Back in the 1970s, the EMIT tweeters in Infinity speakers were oh-so sweet to me. They offered much greater extension than compression drivers of that era. But they lacked dynamic range. They were relatively fra...

Re: Flanking subs
All three subs are multisubs. The two nearest the mains are flanking subs and the distant one is a distributed multisub. Check that your plate amp DSP can support 100Hz second-order and 50Hz fourth-order Butterworth slopes. I'm sure it does, but che...
