Hi guys

I have a pair of 2225's, and they're a good driver. But recently I found on eBay a pair of JBL 2226 drivers for AU$550/pair + postage, and theres no bidders yet, ends in about 3 days.

Assuming (hoping!) price doesn't increase to major amounts - Is it worth buying these 2226's and selling my 2225's?

I know theyre pretty similar, and both good. But I havn't used a 2226 before, so maybe somebody that has used both 2225 and 2226 can give there opinion. I'm just debating weather or not its worth it.

Who knows, maybe all the bidders will come in at last minute and push the price to $1000, then I'll forget about it :p

The 2226's on eBay have recently been reconed with original JBL recone kits.

Save your money.

I recently had both, kind of in the same situation. Paid a fortune for the 2226's used, but sold them and kept the 2225's instead.

How come you choose to keep the 2225's?

The 2225 and 2226 are very similar drivers actually. The 2225 moving assembly is what is used to recone a 2205, whereas the 2226 uses a different one. The 2226 handles more power than either the 2205 or 2225 but each of these speakers are very similar in most other respects. All three are excellent.

They simply sounded better to me - "smoother". I don't have any sort of objective data to support that impression though.

I have heard tell that the 2225 and similar versions will sound better in a home. They have less power handling capacity and are not as stiff. The short story here is at lower power the 2225 will sound better.
