Hi all,

What does the gauss strength of the magnet represent on a driver? Is this something to do with good pro sound drivers, having high gauss strength? What does a higher gauss strength mean? Is there any relation to BL?

Thanks for any help!
Adrian

Gauss is a measure of magnetic strength, or more specifically, of the magnetic flux at the measured point. It does not indicate mechanical force, and something must interact with the magnetic field to generate force. BL is a measure that includes the voice coil interaction, so it describes motor strength rather than just magnet strength.

The strength of the magnetic lines of flux.

Nope all speakers have gauss strength. Otherwise you have a de-magnitized magnet. The stronger the magnet the better the transient response, and correction from overshoot.(speed if you want to call it that.)

:What does a higher gauss strength mean?
A stronger magnet.

Yep, this is where the magnet and V.C. come into play.
