Port length should be as shown on the plans. If you make the cabinet with thicker wood, just keep the internal box volume the same. The port diameter and length should also be the same, and port length is measured from entrance to exit. So if you have an existing box that's correct in all dimensions - and then you add a panel to the front - you should trim the back of the port so that it's total length from entrance to exit remains the same.
