Wayne, I keep hearing forum posters refering to "plate amps" for the 4648's. Are they referring to (tube/valve) amps????????? Also, noticed when I ordered crossover (parts express) (1k6 - for 4 pi), that you can order hi-pass only. Could be cost savings for anyone who has some 1 mh coils already. I plucked mine out of AR2-AX speakers, very nice air core around 1.1 mh. If the bulbs (protection) go out (aerospace bulbs???) can I just remove from the circuit (short out bulb connection - assuming series connection)???? I ordered 4 today for total of $105.00. Checking out prices of individual parts, I'm only getting them because they have parts mounted on pcb. I am waiting to see quality of coils and caps. Oh well, enough of my opinionated self. Regards, Ron

They work great and you can get them from several sources. I used Parts Express. They are solid state and the ones I am using are for a pair of Le-14A's for stereo subs. The amps are quiet as hell with plenty of power. The adjustable phase control was also a life saver form me getting it all phased properly. Check them out.
the coils from my AR-2x's were only 18 ga., [message #34961 is a reply to message #34959] Sat, 02 February 2002 12:43 Go to previous messageGo to next message

about an ohm DCR and 1.27 mH inductance. Used with about 14.3 uF of cap (solen), they made nice 1200 Hz. series xovers between the 4648a-8's and altec 511/902-8b's. Very minimalist, and the sound is as good or better than the pair x'd at 600 Hz. w/ normal BW's(12 dB/oct). Sam
