Guys; the banded end of the 5408's is away from the trans correct?
Also I have two 12uf Solens rated for 250v. Would they work as filter caps in the filly supply.

1) The banded end of the diodes point away from the Tx. You are correct.

2) The Solens will NOT work. The voltage rating is fine but the capacitance is much too low. The schematic specified 7500uF (microfarads or 7.5mF millifarads.) The Solens are 12uF or 0.012mF. I did post a question for T about your caps, and I think you mught come out ahead. I'm thinking of running a 10,000uF (10mF) cap in parallel with the cap that is closer to the diodes. If T confirms, this will really help ripple.....Colin

Hey-Hey!!!,
as an alternative to getting a new set of caps, one could perhaps parallel some of the smaller ones. Adding another 4700 uF or 6800 or 10,000 is not going to cause serious troubles. the diodes ( 1N5408 was mentioned ) are good for 5A delivered, or average...which is quite different from RMS values.

DC delivered held constant, the bigger the first cap int he filter, the higher the RMS current will be. The current delivery keeps getting higher and shorter, hence RMS goes up.
regards,
Douglas
