Say; check out the new issue. Guy builds a great amp with peerless trans and 71a tube transformer coupled with big oil caps. Battery Bias. He uses a PP trans in SE mode.

He calls it an Altec Lansing/Peerless 4722. With a Stancor 8054 PP OPT. wired for SE.
He also says you can sub a Hammond 808. Nice Power supply circuit. Actually the whole thing kinda resembles Guinevere a little, although it's an amplifier. The bad thing; now there will be a rush on good old iron. I gotta admitt Douglas you're ahead of your time!
I had some reservations but in the past few weeks I have seen the light.

Hey-Hey!!!,
IMO the old power Iron is of far less import unless you are buying it for the potting cans. It is usually designed with lower primary voltage. Running 115 Iron on 120-125 is not ususlly a good idea in audio apps.

6.3 turns into 6.6 or worse, and similar things happen to the HV. not always bad, just so you realize what is going on in the design stages.

you had reservations about ME? well I never....:-)
regards,
Douglas

shameless plug: the ART shirts are really nice.

Can't help it; it's my nature. However; once I am on your side, I am loyal . I forgot to say the amp uses an input trans. Thats the peerless. How come the big oiler has four solder tabs?

I just bought the BBC recordings of Led Zepplin Live. Real good sounding. I know you are a fan.
Shameless Plug; sounds like Click and Clack The Tappett Brothers.

lov 'em... [message #30628 is a reply to message #30626] Sun, 20 February 2005 11:31 Go to previous message

they do what is usually impossible: diagnoses from remote. quite the pair, and I listen when I can.

it's a good thing my wife does not wear Sz. L T's, or I'd have to get another!
