Hi all,
I have been watching this forum with interest.
I have heard Douglas's line stage (the one with all the pretty colors) and it sounds very good indeed.

I just finished the 6j6 push pull, Nickel wonder line stage. (more on this later).
Time to try one of these.

If someone is makeing a bulk order for the dn2340, I have some nice NOS silver plate tube sockets to trade. The same as used on my "cakepan STC amp" there is a picture on the bottlehead site somewhere...John

THe cake-pan amp is linked to here. The Cecil County Library Bottleneck group. Successful in large part to Ray's efforts and acquiring the woderful( but difficult ) room.

Looking forward to hearing that pre-amp. There are a few other types of 6J6 you might want to look at. type 6099 is a ruggedized, matched section version, similar to the relationship between 6SL7 and 6SU7.
regards,
Douglas

Nice and funny! But, does your mother know where her cake-pans, tea-pots and tea-trays are?

quiet! listening!

I think the next version of the cake pan amp is going to use the heavy duty Martha Stewart pan.

Douglas

Hi Douglas,
The Nickel wonder is not ready for tube rolling yet. First Jim McShane is selling 6j6's for the princely sum of .50, so I bought the asortment pac.
The problem is the power supply is woefully inadequate. I bought the $12 Allied Transformer. and I got what I payed for. even moveing it to the outside of a steel box has not compleatly cured the 60hz hum.
That's what I get for not breadpan..er, breadboarding it first...John

Hey-Hey!!!,
I have a few bits of power Iron. Fairly small stuff, but bigger than your Allied. Drop me a note with specs and I'll check my box and see if I can bring it to Elkton in March( if you're planning on going ) or post it to you...
regards,
Douglas

thank you Douglas,
That is a very kind offer. The big problem is not so much it's size, but the field that it radiates. there well may be other issues like grounding or filaments involved but when i moved it out of the box, the buzz dropped 80%
It is build into a stainless steel tissue box i found at Ikea with is half the fun and looks cool.
If you have something a little better shelded ~250 CT and 6.3 I may ask for a loan, to get it up for the meet. I think I will order the habor as a longer term solution...John
