Somebody posted somewhere that this was on sale for $79 bucks. THE shit hot DIY soldering station. It, 2 extra tips and 5 rolls of wick made $99 and free shipping at HMC.
The pencil is thin and connects with an XLR to the base! It has some magic digital heating thing so no waiting for temps after heavy metal parts.
Oh yeah!

I thought my Weller WLC-100 with adjustable temp was pretty good. This Hakko puts it to shame. Construction: separate power unit and holder, tips are held with threaded shaft, not set screws, all metal.
Temp adjustment is extremely fine and heats and cools rapidly from heavy cap lead point-to-point to fine regulator on PCB. No more lifted traces or overheated components.
Solder a joint, even with 16ga. wire and the tip is ready to go almost as soon as you can move to the next one. Wow!

Yes, I'll second that good review of the 936. I went back to Hakko after years of using Wellers that kept breaking (except for the $$ W80).
The Hakko is tough to beat.

Best regards,

John
