Are any of you subscribers of Voom? I'm considering taking the plunge and wondering how they compare with other satellite service providers.

Wayne,

I would definitely not go with Voom right now. I just read an article in the WSJ about them. So far thay have only signed on 16,000 customers nationwide. They suffered a net operating loss of something like 500 million dollars last year. Also direct TV is about to roll out an HD package that had 180 channels. Voom might not be around much longer.

Yeah, that was my concern too. They're doing a bit of a media push right now, but their timing may not have been right for the market. Everybody loves HD when they see it, but it's still slow going.

I heard they had something like 120 HD channnels?? But that most of these are like cooking shows or channels about bugs or something....not something that you would really care to see in HD. The reviews that I have read on them are not good.

Yeah, everyone I know complains about the lack of substantive HD programming. My guess is it will really ramp up in the next couple years, since there is a requirement that all stations broadcast digital signals by February 17, 2009.

I am betting they will get bought by someone. Some larger company will come in and buy their broadcast rights and use a few of their channels and just absorb them.
