Why don't bandpass subs get more attention on this august forum? They are easily as efficient as basshorns at the lowest frequencies where they are tuned and they are much smaller. Have they been overlooked because they aren't in vogue with the hornies?

While a bandpass sub can get quite repectable efficiency, they can only do so within a very narrow band. If you can get a bandpass to go down to 30Hz (which means it won't be that small anyway), it would be difficult to get it to cover more than 1 octave, neccessitating more large cabinets to cover the low midbass region. The beauty of horns is that as well as the efficiency, 3 to 4 octave bandwidths are easy, meaning smaller top boxes.

Cheers
Graeme
