Which would you choose for a basshorn Magnum 12 or LAB12 and why?

Actually, neither. Fs of the Lab12 is far too low for a horn unless you want a 15Hz horn, and the Xmax of the Mag12 is far too small for its power rating.

A nice compromise between all parameters can be found in the Beyma 12LX60.

Cheers

I lean towards the Magnum, as the higher fs gives higher SPL. It does have less excursion but real world testing results show that it is quite adequate; being able to take full power below 50 Hz without exceeding xmax isn't necessary because the musical power spectrum is not linear and just doesn't require it. The Beyma is a fine driver, but at nearly twice the price of the Eminence not an economical choice, while its xmax advantage over the Magnum is equal to only 2dB additional output.

Hi Bill,

Here in Aus, the Beyma is comparable price-wise and much easier to get hold of - the Aus Beyma dealers have no problems ordering it in, whilst the Eminence distributors don't want to know about special orders. Whilst the Xmax of this driver is smaller than the Lab12, due to its higher sensitivity it is only about 1dB behind the LabSub in similar cabinet, and at lower power.

Cheers

Makes good sense and looks like a great idea!
