I was cleaning out my attic and found this GE phono/tube radio combo console. Does anyone know anything about it?? I believe it was made in 1949 or earlier (that was the only date I could find anywhere on it). Its in decent shape although it seems to need refinishing as the wood is scratched on the top. Don't know what type of wood the cabinet is made of. I tried to look up on the net, but could not find any info anywhere! Any info would be most helpful! Thanks!!

Generally, cabinets for radios and console stereos like these were made in several different styles, using different species of wood. So you probably won't find a "standard" cabinet type, rather, there were probably several variants available. Your best bet for identifying the wood is to show it to a cabinetmaker and ask what type of wood it is.
