IF I wanted to replace the subwoofer that comes with my sourround sound system. would it beposisble to get a bigger one without ruining anything. Could I actually upgrade it?

Sure, you can do that. You'll have to match a few things, like make sure the driver is suitable for the cabinet (if you're just swapping the driver) or better yet, swap the whole cabinet with a bigger, better unit. In that case, just be sure the sub will handle the range you need (probably not an issue) and be sure it will handle the power. On the other end of the scale, if the woofer you're considering is tuned lower, it may not be as efficient and may need more amplifier power, so make sure you have enough amp. In either case, you may have to match SPL levels, but gain should be adjustable on the sub channel amp, allowing you to do this.
