We've listed a second report on a modified tuner's sonic behavior. This one modified by our man Ray. Thanks. jim...

I have not had the opportunity to audition various tuners and would like to know if there are any obvious differences to the casual listener between the top ranked tuners vs the commercial units available today.

I'm current using a Cambridge Audio T500 and the sound quality is obviously poorer than my CD player. But I've always attributed it to the source signal. I've also been checking out the Sansui TU series of tuners on eBay and think they are some of the nicing looking components I've ever seen.

So, putting a TU-717 beside a T500, is there an obvious difference?

Hello Garman, You can read my FM tuner reviews here... http://www.fmtunerinfo.com/shootouts.html
There have been 80 STOCK TRANSISTOR FM Tuners reviewed using my "Shootout" format. Unfortunately your Cambridge didn't do too well. But remember, these are just my opinions in my system. Please read our reviewing laws at the top of the linked page too. jim...
