Thanks for the feedback Fred. I like my 1970-s Kenwood K-7500 tuner (as yet unmodded but still sounding excellent). But then I like my Nakamichi decks playing well recorded cassette tapes too...

Im not really into the whole high definition radio. It does nothing for me. I can't stand the whole cd.dvd player thing neither. It's pointless to even try to listen to music that way.

I liked the Sangean, but I bought it to listen to my local NPR station which broadcasts classical music. It turned out the station's signal quality was completely unacceptable. There was an inharmonic high frequency ringing sound, and once you heard it you couldn't ignore it. If the sound had been equal to that of a mass market DVD player feeding a mass market receiver I would have been fine with it, but it wasn't even in that league. So I returned the tuner for a refund.

I'm sorry to hear about that. I don't think I've heard about HD radio. Is it available on a cable line, or is it only broadcast on air waves?

HD radio is broadcast on the airwaves using the same frequency as the station's original analog signal. See the link below for the advertising hype. Notice that the digital signal is compressed, and many stations broadcast the original analog signal plus two digital signals in the same frequency allocation they originally used for analog only.

If you don't mind me asking, where did you get your Nakamichi deck player?
