Whatever happened to MiniDiscs? They seemed to take off ok in Japan, but for some reason never achieved great success commercially in either North America or Europe.

They seem so much more convenient and portable than CD's.

Cheap memory. The mini-disk became a solution in search of a problem.

Your average MP3 player can carry 250-2000 songs without all that mucking about changing disks. And the hardware is cheaper to manufacture....
