I have a sony tc-650 and just of late my left channel is slightly muted. I've cleaned the head three times and demagnatized. Has anyone with a tc-650 had the same proplem or does anyone have any ideas what the problem could be? Also, does anyone have any parts for a tc-650? Thanks.

Sounds like you may need to replace the tape head. Is the tape path straight? If the pinch roller isn't causing the tape to contact the head uniformly, that can cause it too.

Hi - In any 30 y/o set with permalloy heads, this could be one of ten different things, worn head, capacitor problem, internal controls, alignment, tough to guess. I have most of the remains of a TC-650, probably including a head block.

I'm currently using Sony Model TC-651. All the features of Sony’s TC-650 but with Auto Reverse playback.

I've just got word from my local repair shop which stated they can't locate any repair literature for the Sony TC-650 so they can't fix it. Do you know where I could get repair literature for a TC-650?

I list the TC-651 Service Manual on my web site, but it is listed as a partial manual, missing the Part Number Lists, supposedly the parts not being available, whoever copied it left them out to save a buck.

That info is out of date, I do have the complete TC-650 Service Manual now, I just have to find which box and folder it is in.

The TC-650 Service Manual is available for $29. cash, check, or MO. shipped in conus or $30. shipped for Paypal to: slbender@gmail.com - to partially pay for the fees Paypal collects.

I also have many parts including a head assembly, pinch roller, VU Metters, motors, PC boards, switches etc. pulled from a working TC-650 that was dismembered for one particular part.
