I second the use of a Grado cartridge. They are incredibly musical for the money. A Grado Black is $40. I used one for several years. A Grado Blue is $80 and a worthwhile upgrade. I couldn't be happier with mine.I am not aware of anyone having hum problems with Technics DD turntables, but wouldn't hurt to do a search on it and ask around, just in case. The Technics, I think, uses a DC motor, which shouldn't cause a hum problem with Grados.
