I recently picked up a Technics SL-23 at a second hand store, but it's missing the counterweight and being unfamiliar with turntables, I am wondering if I can use a different counterweight as a replacement? Does it matter which brand? I have another counterweight from a POS JVC TT that fits on the SL-23, but can I use it?

Yes, you may want to try another counterweight because that is the usual problem when it comes to turntables.
