I think it would work. I would just be wary of using it unless I was the one who created the message. The way they are done (if you are talking about music with a subliminal message playing alongside it, like I think) you don't actually hear the message. To me, that means they could easily tell you the message is for one thing, but it's actually for something else.

These days, when I hear the term "subliminal messages," my mind goes to the music and how that can have subliminal impacts on your psyche. More to the point, the mood the music sets, the rhythm, and time signatures. This all leans more toward musical therapy, which is subliminal by nature and function.

The lyrics in a song can be subjective, much the same way a painting is subjective: The listener takes out what they interpret from it. The music, however, is more absolute, and while I don't know everything about the science behind it yet, it affects your state of mind, and it does so in a subliminal way because you don't feel the change as it happens. The change is very low-key.
