Hello, I just bought a hitachi turntable and it is very quiet. I have to turn my radio all the way up to hear the record.
Also there is a little wire on the back which I don't know what to do with....maybe a ground.

The "spare wire" is probably a ground. Is it black?

As for the lack of volume, you probably need a phono stage preamp. See the link below for more info:
