I own a Technics 1900 turntable. The tonearm won't drop. My son was playing some of my vinyl and I think he tried to move the tonearm before he lifted it. It happened once before and it cost me $90.00 to have it fixed. Does anyone know how I can repair it myself? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

We need more information; what exactly do you mean by he tried to move the arm before lifting it?

Thanks for responding! He said he unlocked the tone arm but didn't use the arm lift lever before moving the tonearm up and toward the vinyl. He said he felt some resistance but kept trying to move it. Is there a spring that may have been moved to a point where it won't allow the tonearm to drop? If so, how do I access the spring or mechanism to repair? And what do I do when I get to that point? Thanks again for any help you can give me!

You can disconnect the whole arm mechanism and use it as a free arm set-up. It must be done carefully though.
