I am building a Tubelab SSE and looking to the next project which will be a set of speakers. The 1Pi seems to fit the bill however after looking at the impedance graph I am unsure what to choose for output transformers. My initial plan was to go with a pair of Edcor GXSE15-8-5k. However the 1Pi spends a good portion of it's range under 8 ohm dipping down to what looks like 4 ohm at 2 points. Will the 8 ohm transformers drive them ok or should I be looking at a lower output impedance?

You can use either the 4Ω or 8Ω tap, whichever sounds best to you. You can use either tap without risk of harm to amp or speakers. I generally prefer to use the 8Ω tap on my tube amps.

Thanks for the reply Wayne. That model of Edcor only comes with a single tap so I need to choose either 4Ω or 8Ω when I purchase them. My original plan was to get the 8Ω version so I will stick with that.

Can I also get a copy of the plans for the 1Pi? Thanks again.

Yes, go with 8Ω.

And you have mail!
