I am considering buying a new Goldring 1.2(Goldring Elektra) or perhaps a Pro-Ject Debut III (Ortofon OM 5E) turnatable to replace my old Pioneer PL-12D turntable(Shure M91). Any thoughts between the two I am considering?
Also, do you feel either of these is a real upgrade over what I already have?

Since you ask; I would save and wait while using the Pioneer. Then when you have a little more cash; go with one of the 1k rigs. They are pretty much the breaking price point at which you get a significant improvement in detail retreival/bass repreoduction/high freq extension. Pretty much the whole sound opens up. At that point you are beating CD in terms of involving musical playback.
There are plenty of that price around; check Audionote, their stuff is excellent.
