Hello to all,

Well, I should say that I made my decision to buy a Technics SL 1200 turntable, as was also suggested by manualblock, here: http://audioroundtable.com/Turntable/messages/1247.html.

I have a question about the many cartridges available out there.

I have always been thinking about an Ortofon OM 30 cartridge, which is a magnetic one. I have to think further and particularly thinkg about a moving coil cartridge. Can they really be better, even if more expensive?

Your answer is YES, a moving coil is that much better. Keep in mind not only the higher cost of the cartridge but you may also require a Pre-Pre amp or transformer. Some of the moving coil cartridges have a lower output and require this step-up unit unless your amp has an input for moving coil. Another factor, some cartridges must be returned to the factory for stylus replacement.
