So, as an extension to my last thread, I'm wondering where you guys get your kits from. I've been perusing Google and have found a TON of stuff, but so many options kind of paralyzes me from having too many things to choose from. Laughing Figured I'd ask you guys for your input seeing as you seem to really know your stuff.

Oddwatt was at the Lone Star Audio Fest a few years back and they had a very good sounding room several years in a row. Tough to do in hotel rooms. They have kits.

diyaudio.com has a number of forums that have all sorts of build threads. The Pass Labs forum on diyaudio is always busy and entertaining. Several of their boards are available at the diyaudiostore.com and a few are available as complete (or semi complete) kits.

Yes there are ton's of stuff. From amplifiers, preamplifiers, DAC's, speakers, etc, etc. So you'll just have to narrow down what you have a hankering to try. Probably if you've never done kit building and soldering you'll want to do a simpler kit format. But, it's all up to what you want to take a stab at. Don't intimidate yourself out of trying something. My first kit build was an amplifier. The venerable Hafler 220 power amplifier. I still use it, since the late 80's.

Hi, Thanks for the nice comments. It is quite difficult to set up gear in hotel rooms, especially ones with all concrete block walls. We use a PC and calibrated signal generator and mic to sort it out as best as possible. Yes we do kits and some are easy and some not. No commercial plugs here, as it is against my personal values. In the kit world, figure out what your budget may be, kits like ours (all tube based) are not cheap, but solid state ones can be quite inexpensive. Another thing you might consider is using modules to build something. Parts Express has many and you can build amps, preamps and other stuff with them cheaply and with good results. Elliot Sound has some and if they are still in business Ramsey Electronics. First you should decide on what you want and can use. The re-ask the question as we will be better able to help you out.

Good Listening
