A person who hates to skate. No; seriously it is the concept that rotational forces on the tonearm seek to pull it into the center of the record thereby creating unequal groove wear. Anti-skate seeks to apply a counter-force that keeps the needle centered in the groove. Some use a spring mechanism; some use magnets, there are other ways also.
