Seeing that it's never easy to find a time when there's complete silence (when recording) what are your tips for getting rid of ambient noise? I've heard that placing the microphone away from the computer is one effective way of achieving this.
Ambient noise is normal, irrespective of the microphone quality. There are many alternatives but have you heard of audacity? Besides being an open source software, it has also been in use since the year 2000.

Hi, the problem with noise is that for filters and computers it is hard to tell from the signal you want. I use Audacity as well, but it has limitations. Not bad on stuff at the bottom of the audio band...like under 40HZ but so so elsewhere. The click filters are good but it can't get rid of pink noise that is mixed with the signal.
