I haven't played my guitar for a long time and as such, I'm unable to tune it to perfection. Can I perhaps use a software to achieve this end?

You could try PitchPerfect or Digital Guitar Tuner. Both have good reviews on CNET and Tom's Hardware and both have freebie versions that will work on a number of platforms. I hope you find what you need.
