Do you think a career in radio requires a good voice and is so, how would you describe a good voice as? Perhaps 'unique' and 'catchy' more or less describe it but what else can boost a person seeking to get into radio?
The ability to convey a visual image through audio only. Some peoples' voices just seem naturally inclined to be able to do this. That, and reading copy effectively. By effectively I mean reading it with a certain flair in your voice to compensate for not having any visuals to help explain something.
Not only do you need a good voice, but you need to be able to read vocally quite well I would imagine. What Kingfish said nails it pretty much, and some people were not given that gift it seems.
There are training courses for radio presenters, and some of them do podcast training as well. Sounding good is a skill you can learn, but you need to have the gift of the gab and be quick on your feet if you're doing live presenting.
I'm not sure if you really need a voice to be able to have an awesome career in radio. Is it possible that it first starts with an interest then voice training follows?
