We've had the jump from mono to stereo to surround sound, so what do you think the next big thing is going to be in audio? It is hard to guess at the next step, since the previous advances were all about adding new channels and speakers. Any ideas?

I was thinkin' tube gear. You and I may be comfortable with tube amps, but the iPod generation has never even seen a vacuum tube.

Now that I think about it, most of the Millennials would probably be more familiar with the idea of implanted chips than they would be with tubes. Laughing

Put the chips in the tubes......the best of both worlds. Laughing

I was thinking sound waves that make color out of sound. Different notes produce different colors. Different decibel levels dictate the brightness. Now wouldn't THAT be cool.

That is such a wonderful idea. Of course it's going to be possible sooner or later. I just love how fast our technology is moving forward these days. Not sure if we'll still be around to see it, but one can dream, can't they?

I'm definitely not in favour of that. How long until someone hacked it until you couldn't turn it off, or stations paid for access to beam songs into your brain? Earworms you literally can't get away from!

Haha, this is interesting; my morning is made. It might be hard to figure out where technology will be heading but I presume it will be nothing beyond the unthinkable.
